Child Find
The Department of Special Education is launching Child Find efforts in our community. Child Find refers to the activities conducted by local school systems to identify children suspected of having disabilities to determine their eligibility for Special Education and related services, as mandated by IDEA. CCSD’s Preschool Special Needs Assessment Department provides comprehensive evaluation services for any child ages three to five who is experiencing significant difficulties or delays in development, whether physical, mental or emotional. This department also conducts comprehensive evaluations for children who have been receiving early intervention services through Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) and are approaching 3 years of age at which point BCW services will end.
Areas of concern can include difficulties in developing speech and language skills, thinking skills, adaptive skills, motor skills, and social/emotional skills. A play-based assessment will be conducted to determine if a student qualifies for the Preschool Special Needs Program. Please see the attached brochure for further information.
